Jeni Lee

Gango Editions, Inc. Artist

artist image Jeni Lee harbors a voracious love of journeys both long and short which serve as the starting point for her work. She grew up in the countryside of Northern California and the lush forests of the Northwest, attended artist residencies on the Oregon coast, in New Mexico and Vermont, and even a walk through her neighborhood can inspire a new piece. Lee continues to live and travel in various places, all of which influence her work and artistic process.

"My art reflects the abstraction of a moment in a place - the shape of ripples in a tide pool, the design of fallen leaves, the shadows cast by mountains. My experience of place not only speaks to the content of my work, but also supports my evolving process and approach to painting." Lee collects these moments in journals and sketchbooks: found images and colors, texts and conversations, shapes and lines from nature.

Lee built a foundation of creative expression from childhood and continually grows this as an engaged working artist. After receiving her BA in Painting, she quickly built a clientele base of private and corporate collectors, as well as maintaining consistent commissions for a variety of mediums and design forms. Lee enjoys donating pieces in support of various non-profit organizations, and has also received awards for her work.

Once in the studio, Lee draws on both her experiences as well as her materials to inspire and drive her process. "My artistic style is a playful montage of mediums and techniques. I love working with a variety of materials including paints and pastels, papers and natural elements, and Im always on the lookout for new mediums that speak to my experiences and style." Lees work covers a broad range, including collages with leaf prints, emotive abstract landscapes, and organic circles that play with color and shape. Each piece serves as a new discovery in material, technique, and process, a new experience in creation and expression of her environment.
