Diane can't remember life before art. Her first art lessons at the Philadelphia Art Museum were before first grade. Growing up with antiques, she was inspired by the art at home, imagining her own traditional watercolor landscapes among them.
Diane studied fine arts with a minor in theatre design at Denison University. While working in a decorating and antiques shop after graduation, she started painting children's portraits (real and imaginary) in early 19th century style. In researching period stylizations, themes, etc., she became enchanted with the whimsy and unpretentiousness of folk art painting and crafts. Inspired by these, her themes expanded to include landscapes, still lifes, and decorative paintings, many inspired by Scripture.
